The Road Trip Diaries: The Miami Adventure Continues

14 October 2012 - Day Five in Miami

Anniversary day! Husband and I head out to do a bus tour of Miami - today it is the City Loop. We drive through the financial district, down to Coconut Grove and back up and around to Little Havana. Where we quickly jump off and run across the road to Versailles - a traditional Cuban restaurant for a little anniversary lunch.
We dash back out the restaurant, just in time to flag down the last Big Red Bus - it's 4.30pm, and they're nearly done for the day!
After returning to the apartment, we head out for a drink on Key Biscayne, at the Rusty Pelican, and look back on the sun setting over the city skyline. You can't beat that view.

15 October 2012 - Day Six in Miami

Today we finish up the next leg of our bus route - the Beach Loop. They waste no time in driving us straight to the beach (literally, we drive on the highway, on an open top bus - my face nearly blew off).

The heat is swamping. Shade brings little relief, but in direct sunlight, I can feel myself melting. I'm soon glistening with sweat, and keen to try anything to cool down. Which in this heat, means drinking as much as possible, and staying on the shady side of the pavement. It's not very effective.
Lunch is at Yard Bird - a winning recommendation from Husband's wonderful cousin, Shelley. The decor is sharp, and on point (the chalk board pic from the beginning of this post is from this restaurant), and the food is completely perfect.

And the air-conditioning is life saving.
The evening is spent walking the streets of South Beach. The lights twinkle on, the pastel buildings start to turn luminescent.
After a drink on the strip (which is a complete tourist trap - they all offer happy hour drinks, almost all night long, but the drinks are just a ploy to get you in, and ordering food, and then the food is horribly overpriced), we walked down Lincoln Road - away from the beach, and to yet another well recommended restaurant, The Meatball Joint.

16 October 2012 - Day Seven in Miami

Mmm...a whole day at home. Laptops, admin, blogging, phone calls. Husband and I sit at the big dining table and get a whole pile of work done (plus all the laundry, ironing and cooking!). We feel so very domestic.

And strangely...relaxed.
